Why This Itinerary Works

Florence is Colorado's Antique Capital with more than 100 dealers concentrated on a walkable Main Street. But it's also the closest town to the Royal Gorge — just 15 minutes west on US-50. That proximity is the key. You can spend a relaxed morning hunting for treasure in historic storefronts, then drive to one of Colorado's most dramatic natural wonders for an afternoon of Class III–V whitewater or soaring zipline runs.

This is a full day. Budget around 3 hours for antique shopping, a half-day river trip or zipline tour in the afternoon, and dinner in Canon City before the drive home. If you're staying overnight, Florence makes an ideal base.

The Day, Hour by Hour

8:30 AM — Arrive in Florence

Park on Main Street — parking is free and usually easy before 10 AM on weekends. Grab coffee at a downtown cafe and get oriented. Most antique shops open at 10 AM, so take your time with breakfast and let the town wake up around you.

10:00 AM — Antique Shopping on Main Street

Start at the north end of Main Street and work south. The shops cluster between 1st and 6th streets — plan 20 to 30 minutes per shop if you're serious. Colorado Central Antiques (200 W Main St) is one of the largest with over 10,000 square feet. Reflections Antique Mall and Old Territorial Antiques are both within easy walking distance. Budget $20–$40 for finds, or considerably more if you spot furniture.

Tip: Many dealers offer cash discounts. Bring small bills.

1:00 PM — Drive to Canon City (15 min)

Head west on US-50 toward Canon City. The drive takes about 15 minutes through open rangeland with the canyon country coming into view ahead. This is where the day shifts gears completely.

1:30 PM — Royal Gorge Rafting

Check in at Royal Gorge Rafting for an afternoon half-day trip through the gorge. The Royal Gorge section of the Arkansas River is Class III–V whitewater — experienced guides take you through named rapids with sheer granite walls rising over 1,000 feet on both sides. No experience required. All equipment provided. Most trips run 3–4 hours.

4:30 PM — Optional: Royal Gorge Zipline Tours

If you have the energy, swap or combine with Royal Gorge Zipline Tours for a completely different view of the canyon. Multi-line courses with dramatic canyon vistas — great complement to a morning raft trip or a solid standalone afternoon.

6:00 PM — Lunch or Dinner: WhiteWater Bar & Grill

After the river, head to WhiteWater Bar & Grill on Highway 50 West in Canon City. Seasonal menu, craft cocktails, and a lively outdoor atmosphere. This is the natural endpoint of any Royal Gorge adventure day — great food, great drinks, great atmosphere.
